How Can I Maximize My Reading Time?

I am a fairly voracious reader, but there are several problems:
1. I have a slight case of add, so I read more slowly than I should otherwise because I am easily distracted by other thoughts.
2. I have a wide variety of interests, so I am generally reading several books on different subjects at the same time. My primary interests are in politics, history, science, sociology, Buddhism, music, and baseball.
3. My book reading time is fairly limited, say 8-10 hours a week, which tends to be about the time it takes me to read a scholarly 350-400 page work.
Looking over my "to-read" shelves, I currently have, by my estimates, 400 hours of reading material.
I have 180 books on my Amazon wishlist vying for my attention.
How do I decide what’s worth my time, particularly when it comes to books with a political agenda? Amazon reviews are not very helpful here, because they seem to always be ridiculously laudatory. Does anyone know of any resources for helping someone in my situation read faster

How much would a full electronic drum set cost me?

I asked my mum for electronic drums for my birthday and couldn’t find a full "set" anywhere (I.E. with an amplifier, or however they’re played.) How much would a basic amplifier cost for electronic drums? Could I just use my guitar amplifier with them? If so, are there any electronic drum kits I can use that a normal electric guitar jack would plug into to connect it to the amplifier? If not, where can I get cheap amplifiers for electronic drums?

How would you rank these four players?

From time to time I like to get the opinions of baseball fans regarding players from the past. This is one such case.

Knowing in advance what their careers would bring, how would you rank the following four players assuming you were going to draft them? Take into account all aspects of their game – hitting, defense, speed, leadership, intangibles – whatever you feel is important when assessing a player.

Please provide reasoning behind your opinion, something beyond "He was the man!" :-)

As always, thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses.

The players, presented alphabetically:

- Rickey Henderson
- Joe Morgan
- Frank Robinson
- Mike Schmidt

Strictly speaking from an offensive production standpoint, why do batting average and home runs matter?

I guess this is a "moneyball" or "sabermetric" issue if you want to call it that but if the purpose of winning a game is to score more runs than other team & that RBI & runs scored are the two most simple measurement of this and how many runs a player helped produce, how come BA and HR continue to be viewed as the most imporant statistics about a player’s offensive production? The "moneyball" theory first practiced by the Oakland A’s has come a long way in changing GM’s ideas about how to value players by recognizing categories like on base %, total bases, etc. & the importance of avoiding making an out at your plate appearance rather than necessarily whether you hit a HR or a single, I know HRs fill seats but I think players like Rickey Henderson who is in the top 3 career leaders in baseball in runs scored tend to be less revered in baseball history than a pure slugger with no speed. Do you agree that it _is_ this case that BA & HR are overemphasized and if so why is this?

Is killing justifiable in these circumstances? Why or why not? (Read the details, please)?

Case #1

You are a soldier in the U.S. Army during World War II fighting against the Nazis who are engaged in the genocide European Jewry. You kill a German soldier in combat.

Case #2

You are the father of a 3 year old child. An intruder in your home is trying to kill him. You hit the intruder on the head with a baseball bat and kill him.

Case #3

You are a pro-lifer. You know that there are abortions going on inside your local abortion clinic. You believe that an abortion is in process and you burst inside the clinic and snuff out the abortion doctor who is in the process of performing an abortion on a 6 month old fetus.

What is your opinion?

Baseball rules question, what happens when a batter is unable to complete his "at bat/plate appearance?'?

What happens when a batter is unable to complete his "at bat/plate appearance?’ Let’s say during a batter’s at bat, he swings at a pitch and injures his shoulder. He is unable to continue batting and has to leave the game. Is he automatically called "out?" Or can a replacement/pinch hitter finish the at bat. And if so, I’m assuming that the pitch count would continue where it had left off, i.e: 1 ball-1strike, 2 balls-2 strikes, etc…. But if that’s the case, who gets charged if that "at bat" ends up with a strike out? Cause when pitchers are relieved in the middle of an at bat, it depends on what the pitch count was. Would that also be the case in this scenario? I’ve tried to look it up in the MLB Rules Book but was unable to find it.

Can someone PLEASE tell me the value of these baseball cards? Are they valuable?

My husband has been put into a nursing home, and I found boxes and boxes full of mostly all baseball cards that I did not know he had. There’s thousands of them. I’m assuming some of them may be very valuable, and I’m wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how much they may be worth. I pulled out seven that are in cases, and they look like they are in mint condition. I know nothing about baseball cards, or any type of sports cards for the matter, but this is what the front of the cards say.

‘93 Fleer Ultra, Barry Bonds, Top Glove.

1993 Upper Deck, Nolan Ryan, "The Express’ Last Run".

Classic Baseball, Ken Griffey, Jr. (1988).

‘92 Fleer Ultra, Ken Griffey, Jr., Seattle Mariners, Outfield.

Score Gold Rush, Frank Thomas, Chicago White Sox (1993).

Dodgers, O-Pee-Chee, Mike Piazza, Catcher (1993).

Skybox, Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan (1990)

If anyone could give me some information on these cards and how much they could be worth, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for all of the answers given so far. A friend of mine recommended putting them away for when my daughter has kids and her kids have kids. He said they may be quite valueable then. Once again, thank you for the helpful answers.

What is a good quality electronic drum kit to get for cheap online? ( That is semi-small)?

I have been playing around on the drums 4 about a year and I wanted a nice kit for my birthday or christmas that is small and affordable. I was thinking about the "Roland HD-1 V Drum Lite Electronic Drum Set" but I dont know if this is a good idea or not. Have any suggestions of a good kit or set that is cheap?

What's my Stan Musial autographed official national league baseball worth?

it’s an official national league Rawlings (RO-N) ball signed by Stan Musial. No date on it, but the Pres. name is A. Bartlett Giamatti. The ball is in a transparent plastic sealed display case with a little metal Plate on the under-side with "Stan Musial" written on it. I live in Pakistan and I got this ball from an open market, so there’s no certificate of authenticity. A lot of valuable and antique items end up there from all over the world. The ball is not damaged but is kinda faded. The casing is fully intact and hasn’t been opened.

I didn't pre-order Left 4 Dead 2, why did I get the exclusive baseball bat card?

I got my Xbox 360 for christmas, and I got Left 4 Dead 2 with it, and I saw that in the box the game+case was in, had a card in it, and I told my dad "woa! this is an exclusive that you only get when pre-ordering it!" "how’d you get it??" he said the guy he bought it from gave it to him? why?

What is your favorite Chris Berman nickname for a baseball player?

Just in case someone on the planet isn’t aware of what I mean Berman has been giving all athletes weird nicknames for about 25 years, ie: George "Taco" Bell, Bert "Be home" Blyleven, etc…
So what is your favorite nickname he’s ever given a baseball player?

What makes Baseball such a spiritually magical game?

Ironically enough, and as far as the "fast-paced-ness" of the game goes, I’ve always been more of a football than a baseball fan myself. Still, there is something profoundly spiritual / uniquely magical about baseball that one cannot quite encounter in any other (American) sportive activity. Why do you think that maybe the case? Is that because we all grew up with baseball? If so, the same argument can also be made for football and basketball, and yet they are not quite as spiritually charged as baseball. What is it about baseball that gives it its supernaturally charismatic charm?
Not considering the usual show of CUTENESS, I thank (most of) you for such wonderful answers. I’m gonna have a really though time picking a BA, again.

Does anyone know any cheap Drum Cymbal packs or sets?

Well, i bought drums off of Craigslist 3 days ago. I got the stands for a crash cymbal and hi-hats. Im currently looking to find cheap Hi-hats and a crash. I believe the starter cymbals are a 18" Crash and 13-14" Hi-hats. They don’t need to be that measurement, i am just trying to find some cheap sets, because i can’t really afford the ones around 0-0

Preferably -80
