Legal advice about buying stolen baseball tickets online?

My mom bought her and my brother some baseball tickets online at a place called ticketliquidators.com. They have a policy that all tickets are good or your money back. Well my mom, my brother and I drove almost 300 miles one way to get there and made a weekend out of it. They get to the venue and the tickets had not only been reported stolen, but had been sold to 3 different sets of people, so my mom lost all of her 0 and ended up in the nosebleed section. I have the first name of the guy who sold them to ticketliquidators, and the ticketliquidators does not want to refund her money because they say it is the fault of the guy who listed it. Do we have a civil suit? If so, I’m not trying to be greedy, but would he be responsible for the cost of the new tickets, gas and hotel, since the only reason we went there was for the game? Or do we not have a case at all?
I know who he is and where he works because I called ticket liquidators and told them I really wanted to thank him and they actually gave me his number. He works 2 blocks from the stadium and I called him and told him we wanted a refund. He called my mom to come to his office and said he would refund her, but it was like 9 pm in downtown Houston and she didn’t feel comfortable meeting him, so instead she told him to meet her at guest resolutions and he never showed, but he was dumb enough to give me the name of his office and street address, and my mom actually has his last name, I just asked her and she said she knows his full name.

Why is Baseball so numbers concious? Should it be?

Sadaharu Oh hit 800 plus home runs, shattering Aaron’s record, but no one knows of him outside of Japan. The argues against him being the all time home run leader are obvious – smaller parks, different caliber of pitchers, etc. That’s always the case though with any attempt to rate players by historical players. Unless they play against each other, in the same environments, you have to look at the variables. There’s park size, juiced ball, dead ball, pitcher caliber, fitness regimen, steroids, rotation depth, average innings a starter pitches, pitchers used per game, distance to mound, the list is seemingly endless. That said, is it accurate to weigh someones ability as a ball player based on these magic numbers we hold dear? Does the fact that Mussina did what he did in the steroid era without a dominant fastball mean anything to someone who would say, "he doesn’t match up at all against the numbers Tom Seaver put up"?

No other sport cares about their magic numbers as much as baseball does. Maybe the fantasy isn’t the numbers Bonds and A Rod and McGwire put up, but rather the idea that all these records have inherent statistical meaning to the sport.

why do baseball teams keep playing each other again and again? :s?

hi!
im a baseball newbie. ive just started watching recently. anyway my question is yesterday i was watching the bosox against toronto and they won. i cheered.

but i looked today and they’re playing toronto again? and again once more?? lol. how many times do the same team play against each other?

ive been told baseball is a series of games, is it a best of 5,6,7? as i thought it was just one game, best of 9 innings.

anyway, someone else told me that they have to play a series to save travelling around, etc? if thats the case then why didnt the red sox keep playing baltimore? instead they played like 3 games with them then went off to play toronto. and are going to play baltimore again this week i think.

surely you would play all your games against a team then move on to the next on in your league.

help!

Baseball is a sport of traditions. Why does MLB seem hell bent on eliminating them?

Case in point: Cincinnati was the scene of the opening game in all of baseball for about a century in order to mark the significance of the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. Even though there were usually other games taking place on Opening Day, the first pitch was intentionally moved back a few minutes in Cincinnati to keep the tradition alive. Why have we gotten away from something as traditional and longstanding as that?

Before anyone accuses me of pro-Reds bias, I’m a Tigers fan, but I’m a firm traditionalist as well.
colonel: I detest interleague play. It cheapens the World Series.

Grade my essay on Instant replay in baseball?

Please comment and grade my essay. I am in 8th grade…

Instant Replay in Baseball
By:Nick Montesano

It’s the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, and there’s a man on second base. The batter hits a screaming ground ball between the first baseman and second baseman. The runner from second is running as fast as he possibly can to get to home plate before the throw from the right fielder gets there. The right fielder throws a one bouncer into the catcher’s glove, the catcher applies the tag and… "YOU’RE OUT!" Game over. Although everyone in the entire stadium and everyone watching on T.V knew that he was safe, he is out and the game is over. Now this could have been the tying run, or winning run to send a team to the playoffs. But because of the umpire’s blown call, all the season is for nothing. This problem could be fixed with the expansion of instant replay. Instant replay should be expanded to cover all questionable plays in baseball except for balls and strikes.

As other sports have become more friendly to instant replay, the calls for instant replay in some form are getting quite strong and Major League Baseball cannot fight it anymore. Certainly the NFL has had success with its instant replay and challenge rules, which no doubt plays a large role in pressuring Major League Baseball to expand the system. One play could change a game, and one game could change a season; that is why it is so urgent to expand the flawed system. Now stated in the previous paragraph, that specific scenario could diminish a team, and maybe send a team back home from the playoff journey that they have been playing all season for. "I can tell you that as a player, the No.1 thing you want is to get the call right. This is especially true in the big games." – Paul Splittorff, who is an ex-Major League baseball player. A system that includes 2 challenges from each side, and is allowed to be used on all controversial plays that don’t include strikes and balls that are being pitched, could fix the problem that fans and General Managers have been dying to find a solution too.

The implementation of the replay system has started off as a limited manner in baseball. Major League Baseball approved use of instant replay only in the case of whether a ball is a home run or not. The review could be brought on by a question of if the ball actually went over the fence or if there is a question as to whether there has been fan interference. The expansion of instant replay would provide more accountability for umpires. It was theALDS between the Yankees and Twins with no outs in the 11th inning and the game tied 3-3, Minnesota’s Joe Mauer hit a ball down the left field line. Melky Cabrera couldn’t quite get to it and the ball bounced fair by about 4-6 inches before bounding into the Yankee Stadium stands for what would have been a ground rule double. But despite being in the correct position to make the right call,Cuzzi called it foul and sent Mauer back to the plate. Umpire Phil Cuzzi needs to be held accountable. "Accountability is something that everyone else has to have at their day job, so why not umpires too?" (Smith), a sports writer for "yahoo-sports.com", states the ideas that accountability is also necessary for Major League Baseball umpires.

One of the main arguments against instant replay in Major League Baseball is that it will slow down an already slow game. Now the average running time of a Professional baseball game is about 2 hours and 54 minutes, that is a long time. But the instant replay factor wouldn’t add to that statistic by much at all. In the National Football League, officials usually have to look at a number of aspects to the play that was being challenged. "Did he have possession of the football?" "Did he get his feet in bounds?" "Did he cross the plane of the end-zone?" The only questions thatMLB umpires would have to decide is, "was he out or safe?" Because of the simple viewing and deciphering process, the expansion of instant replay wouldn’t add much to the slowness of the game. "You really want to take as much human error element out of it. Yes, there would be a disruption, like there is in football. But I think most players would agree it would be worth it to get the call right."- John Cruck (ESPN.com)

Another argument has been stated by many fans, sports writers, and ex-players: "won’t instant replay ruin the tradition of baseball?" Well let me answer that question with another question, "is it really worth it not to make the needed change that will eliminate an umpire blowing a game, just because of a tradition?" I do agree that the special aspect of baseball is the umpires blowing calls, and just to see the manager on the losing end of the call run out to the umpire and kick dirt all over his shoes. But having 2 challenges for each team would eliminate those end of the game blown calls, that could make a difference between a win and a loss. Tradition s

How would you rank these four players?

From time to time I like to get the opinions of baseball fans regarding players from the past. This is one such case.

Knowing in advance what their careers would bring, how would you rank the following four players assuming you were going to draft them? Take into account all aspects of their game – hitting, defense, speed, leadership, intangibles – whatever you feel is important when assessing a player.

Please provide reasoning behind your opinion, something beyond "He was the man!" :-)

As always, thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses.

The players, presented alphabetically:

- Rickey Henderson
- Joe Morgan
- Frank Robinson
- Mike Schmidt

If you walk out of a baseball field and get to your car…?

then find out the game suddenly went to extra innings, could you re-enter the field? Or in most cases no?

Strictly speaking from an offensive production standpoint, why do batting average and home runs matter?

I guess this is a "moneyball" or "sabermetric" issue if you want to call it that but if the purpose of winning a game is to score more runs than other team & that RBI & runs scored are the two most simple measurement of this and how many runs a player helped produce, how come BA and HR continue to be viewed as the most imporant statistics about a player’s offensive production? The "moneyball" theory first practiced by the Oakland A’s has come a long way in changing GM’s ideas about how to value players by recognizing categories like on base %, total bases, etc. & the importance of avoiding making an out at your plate appearance rather than necessarily whether you hit a HR or a single, I know HRs fill seats but I think players like Rickey Henderson who is in the top 3 career leaders in baseball in runs scored tend to be less revered in baseball history than a pure slugger with no speed. Do you agree that it _is_ this case that BA & HR are overemphasized and if so why is this?

Baseball rules question, what happens when a batter is unable to complete his "at bat/plate appearance?'?

What happens when a batter is unable to complete his "at bat/plate appearance?’ Let’s say during a batter’s at bat, he swings at a pitch and injures his shoulder. He is unable to continue batting and has to leave the game. Is he automatically called "out?" Or can a replacement/pinch hitter finish the at bat. And if so, I’m assuming that the pitch count would continue where it had left off, i.e: 1 ball-1strike, 2 balls-2 strikes, etc…. But if that’s the case, who gets charged if that "at bat" ends up with a strike out? Cause when pitchers are relieved in the middle of an at bat, it depends on what the pitch count was. Would that also be the case in this scenario? I’ve tried to look it up in the MLB Rules Book but was unable to find it.

Armando Galarraga’s perfect game is stolen by Jim Joyce, which of course makes Hitler very upset.

Armando Galarraga throws a perfect game for Detroit, only to have umpire Jim Joyce deny him with a blown call. Even Hitler is upset with the injustice and suggests that Bud Selig reverse the call. My appreciation to Oliver Hirschbiegel, the director of the movie “Der Untergang” (Downfall) from which this scene is taken, for his reasonable response to the viral repurposing of his footage. Much respect to Bruno Ganz for his interpretation of the doomed Hitler which has become so iconic. This clip is a fair-use parody of the original source material which is not meant to replace said original material in any manner. 6/03/10 JIm Joyce’s response to his mistake deserves the highest praise. He has faced the issue head on instead of hiding from it like so many have before. I find it curiously ironic that the blown call that took away the perfect game instead gave both Galarraga and Joyce the chance to display a level of sportsmanship and humanity that will ensure that this one hitter is remembered long after other perfect games are forgotten. Bud Selig is still a tool though. 6/05/10————————————————————- In case you are interested in any of the events I have referenced in the video, here is a selection of links for you to explore. Does the Skyam camera ever interfere with the quarterbacks' throws?

SkyCam, a camera suspended on cables above the playing field, gives us viewers a unique view of the action from an angle that helps us understand the game much better.

My question is, since the cables and camera appear to be not that far above the action, has it ever interfered with a play? If lets say the camera causes a pass to be deflected and intercepted during the Super Bowl, what will they do?

In baseball they have the ground rule double for cases like this (playing in domes) what happens in football?

Why do MLB pitchers, or baseball pitchers in general wave the shaka sign (hang loose) when they get an out?

In case you havent seen the shaka sign, it is where the pinky and thumb are fully extended, and the three middle fingers are folded into the palm. I have seen pitchers wave this sign before, but most recently, in tonight’s Pittsburgh/LA game 6/2/07 when Matt Capps got the final three outs. He waved the sign to his teammates when they caught fly balls.

Baseball: How did you come about to like/love the game so much?

In my case, I grew up watching games on TV with my father. He knew all there was to know about the game. You name it…..players, ball parks, statistics……and so on. Althought I’ve never played the game, I like to learn about it and enjoy going to games.

I am going to a baseball game tomorrow?

if there is a double header tomorrow in case the game gets rained out tonight…if we get to the game early enough do we have to pay extra to watch both games?

Need help! Why are there NO left handed throwing catchers in major league baseball?

There is a disadvantage to being left-had throwing at third base, shortstop or second base. But this is really not the case catching. Dale Long (who threw left-handed) of the Cub’s (in the 50’s) caught a game although his main position was first base. Appreciate any assistance!
