Showing off my autographed mini ice cream baseball helmets. Let me know what you guys think

Is Brett Anderson the real deal? Is he worth a fantasy spot? Is Baseball Tonight on ESPN reliable?

"But early in the 2009 season, Brett Anderson started weight training … after he started doing this, he saw a big difference in his velocity 95 96. He also started working the other side of the plate. You can make a case that he is one of the top 5 left-handers in all of baseball."

After seeing this, i’d throw breaking balls up in the zone … His slider was absolutely filthy … He is able to throw the breaking ball at any part of the count he wants … Video review indicated they were biting on the slider … He works his way out of counts"

Do you believe this? Is Brett Anderson the ace everyone is drawing him out to be? Do you believe the hype or his minor league #’s? Personally, in reference to his minor league #’s, I felt that his SO:BB was strong and he looks great on paper. But, I can’t actually tell if this guy improved after joining the Big Leagues.

Do you trust Baseball Tonight as "Insiders"?
"Brett Anderson blanked the Mariners through six innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four. After posting a 3.48 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with a K/BB ratio of 86:20 in 88 innings after the All-Star Break last season, the 22-year-old became a popular sleeper pick in 2010." 4/9/10

Beanball Leaves Ballplayer Bloody

This disturbing video of a baseball player being hit in the head by a pitched ball is now being released. It is obviously dangerous anytime a batter gets hit by a pitched ball ; however, in this case, the beaning was especially brutal due to the screaming velocity of the pitch. The shattering impact of a nearly 100 mile per hour fastball could be heard from a great distance, and presented a potentially career and life threatening situation for the batter. Dazed and bloodied after being struck in the head by the pitch, the batter had to be taken to the hospital for observation. Miraculously, there was no permanent damage. The pitcher had recently joined the Goldpanners from Team USA, and had not yet yielded a single earned run all season. In fact, he ended the year with a 0.00 ERA in 18 innings pitched, with a win and seven saves. Needless to say, he had absolutely no intention of hitting the batter, and was disturbed by the incident as well. The game situation reveals the accidental nature of the beaning, as it was the top of the 9th inning, and only a single run separated the score. All pitchers have outings that are less effective than others, and such was the case for the Goldpanners’ closer during this game. In fact, Paul Janish – who is now in the major leagues with Cincinnati – was afterwards almost hit as well, prompting a furious outburst from the visitor’s dugout. My shoulder hurts from baseball…and its not going away for several days.?

Alright, so i’ve been playing baseball for several years and maybe about last year, my has shoulder has been hurting, a lot. But not my elbow, just my shoulder. And i would ice to everyday after a game/practice. And now my season, for this year, has just started and its been the 2nd week into practices, and my shoulder started to hurt…maybe about the 3rd or 4rth day of practice. And i’ve been icing my arm everyday after practice. So i think, i may have pulled, or torn or something in my arm/shoulder, how do i know if i have? and should i just go to the doctor, just in case…?

Does an autographed baseball need to be certified?

Recently a friend of mine gave me a baseball, that she received through work. At the time, she didn’t know who signed it, but knew it was "someone who used to play for the Giants". I love the Giants, so she thought it would be a good gift to me. And it is. Last week, she came to me with who it was signed by, and I was shocked. It is a Willie Mays autographed ball. So now, I wonder does this ball, to hold any value, need to be certified? And is there a particular case that is should be held in? I’m a little saddened that I didn’t know who it was from the beginning, as my son played with it a couple times…

How does the IRS tax a baseball?

Will someone please tell this guy before he sells this ball for 0,000 that the IRS cannot tax him on the value of the ball, as the ball is not money, the fan has not received any money for it, and the ball is worth nothing UNLESS the fan actually does indeed sell it. If the IRS thinks it can do such a thing, I doubt it would take much effort for this guy to find an attorney or several who will take his case and successfully argue that he has received no income in relation to owning this baseball. He is being dupped into selling it for a fraction of what it will be worth 5 or 10 years from now.

Why is Baseball so numbers concious? Should it be?

Sadaharu Oh hit 800 plus home runs, shattering Aaron’s record, but no one knows of him outside of Japan. The argues against him being the all time home run leader are obvious – smaller parks, different caliber of pitchers, etc. That’s always the case though with any attempt to rate players by historical players. Unless they play against each other, in the same environments, you have to look at the variables. There’s park size, juiced ball, dead ball, pitcher caliber, fitness regimen, steroids, rotation depth, average innings a starter pitches, pitchers used per game, distance to mound, the list is seemingly endless. That said, is it accurate to weigh someones ability as a ball player based on these magic numbers we hold dear? Does the fact that Mussina did what he did in the steroid era without a dominant fastball mean anything to someone who would say, "he doesn’t match up at all against the numbers Tom Seaver put up"?

No other sport cares about their magic numbers as much as baseball does. Maybe the fantasy isn’t the numbers Bonds and A Rod and McGwire put up, but rather the idea that all these records have inherent statistical meaning to the sport.

Physics: Kinematics and Dynamics in Baseball?

Hey there, I am doing a project about the physics involved in baseball. Mainly the kinematics and dynamics. I am trying to find info on this topic so I can complete an approx. 8 min presentation. I looked for sites but also decided to ask here just in case someone had info or sites.

Can someone please tell me what they know about kinematics or dynamics in baseball or send me sites? Also, if possible use examples. Like, I know there’s dynamics in the bat hitting the ball and collisions at home plate between runner and catcher…not sure about take-out slides at 2nd or slides in general.

(College Baseball) Can i transfer from a D3 school to a D1 school and play basebal without sitting out a year?

I am currently a freshman and playing baseball for a D3 college. I was looking to transfer to a D1 college and try and walk on for my sophomore year next year. However I have heard that I may have to sit out a year if I do that. Does anyone know for sure?

If that’s the case then, would it work if I transfer to a junior college next year, then transfer to a D1 school for my junior year without sitting out a year? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

why do baseball teams keep playing each other again and again? :s?

hi!
im a baseball newbie. ive just started watching recently. anyway my question is yesterday i was watching the bosox against toronto and they won. i cheered.

but i looked today and they’re playing toronto again? and again once more?? lol. how many times do the same team play against each other?

ive been told baseball is a series of games, is it a best of 5,6,7? as i thought it was just one game, best of 9 innings.

anyway, someone else told me that they have to play a series to save travelling around, etc? if thats the case then why didnt the red sox keep playing baltimore? instead they played like 3 games with them then went off to play toronto. and are going to play baltimore again this week i think.

surely you would play all your games against a team then move on to the next on in your league.

help!

When is Baseball going to get with the times?!?

I myself am not a fan of Baseball, mainly because the outcome of a game can be incorrectly decided by human judgment. My question is why with all the modern technology we possess can they not eliminate the possibility of human error?….Simple placement of sensors in various places such as gloves, cleats, the ball, and the bases could essentially eliminate blown calls, and a simple camera system with the strike zone based on the batter’s height and reach can eliminate the home plate umpire. At the very least they could start using instant replays on questionable calls.

People that are die hard, baseball purists always say this would take away from the spirit of the game…If that’s the case, why use electronic scoreboards?, why play games at night under lights?….they didn’t have those things when the sport was created….I just don’t get it.

Do you feel the same?
@Islam Delenda Est…..you said you were upset over the blown call yet in the next sentence you call the game "perfect"…obviously it isn’t
@sarrafzedehkhoee….your the kind of retard that makes an intelligent conversation impossible, nobody said anything about robotic batters so why are you talking about that?….oh that’s right….because your not intelligent enough to come up with a counter argument or any valid reasons to not modernize the sport, all you can do is rattle off wise a$$ comments that make no sense whatsoever.

Baseball is a sport of traditions. Why does MLB seem hell bent on eliminating them?

Case in point: Cincinnati was the scene of the opening game in all of baseball for about a century in order to mark the significance of the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. Even though there were usually other games taking place on Opening Day, the first pitch was intentionally moved back a few minutes in Cincinnati to keep the tradition alive. Why have we gotten away from something as traditional and longstanding as that?

Before anyone accuses me of pro-Reds bias, I’m a Tigers fan, but I’m a firm traditionalist as well.
colonel: I detest interleague play. It cheapens the World Series.

Did MLB make a mistake with the IOC?

The dropping of baseball from the Olympics has damaged the development of baseball around the world since the Olympic committees of many major countries like China are not financially supporting baseball any longer (could imagine the MLB TV ratings in China 10 years from now in case baseball was a very popular sport there?). However, it seems that baseball was dropped from the Olympics mainly because MLB clubs would not allow its top players to take part of the games.

Do you think MLB made a mistake by not fully committing to send its top players to the Olympics?

How Can I Maximize My Reading Time?

I am a fairly voracious reader, but there are several problems:
1. I have a slight case of add, so I read more slowly than I should otherwise because I am easily distracted by other thoughts.
2. I have a wide variety of interests, so I am generally reading several books on different subjects at the same time. My primary interests are in politics, history, science, sociology, Buddhism, music, and baseball.
3. My book reading time is fairly limited, say 8-10 hours a week, which tends to be about the time it takes me to read a scholarly 350-400 page work.
Looking over my "to-read" shelves, I currently have, by my estimates, 400 hours of reading material.
I have 180 books on my Amazon wishlist vying for my attention.
How do I decide what’s worth my time, particularly when it comes to books with a political agenda? Amazon reviews are not very helpful here, because they seem to always be ridiculously laudatory. Does anyone know of any resources for helping someone in my situation read faster

Poster project / Fundraising idea – (Youth Competitive Baseball)?

If your son plays competitive baseball, you probably are expected to be involved in Fundraising activities. In my case, I have twins — each one is expected to come with 00 during the season.

I want to know from "Printers who are parents of ball players" (offset and silkscreen) if they think a poster, done in a graphic style, like the popular "Schwab" posters would aid in fundraising. (Could be sold or given away with a donation…)

I’m a nationally recognized professional illustrator and can supply the Illustration. You as printer would supply the printing.

Parts of the poster could be personalized to mention your local athletic association or team name.I would also need a version for my team — so that means you would have to do a split run to actually have 2 different posters.

Do you think this kind of thing could help in fundraising?
